A few days after the tenants moved out, I took this
video.
There are sliding glass doors to the shared deck. Todd pulled up some of these white tiles (the
tenants did not do this). This is how
dirty we found them, and there were pieces of dog poop on them – which kinda
surprised me, considering that I heard the vacuum running the last day they
were in there. The blue carpeting has been eaten away where it meets the tile
floor, and it – too – isn’t very clean.
What the hell were they vacuuming??
The camera then shows the front door to the apartment, panning around to
view the “white” wall of the living room.
Notice the color differentiation halfway down – where the couch
was. Incidentally, the carpet closest to
that wall is remarkably clean.
The area to the right of the front door is a utility closet,
where the washer and dryer stand (they chose to leave them behind). The floor is, um, well, I don’t… I just can’t
even. Looking up, you will see water
damage on the ceiling, and there were a few other areas where this
occurred. There was a leak in the roof
several years ago that was repaired, but as you can see – they weren’t
interested in Todd coming in to repair the ceiling.
Closer views of the blue carpet show not only the damage but
also many darker stains of unknown origin.
There’s a hole in the bathroom linoleum assumed to be a continuation of the
dogs’ creative endeavors. The seam
between the tub and shower is black with mold and mildew I assume was never
cleaned. The bathroom cabinets – which were not adequately captured here – were
dusty and cobwebby. But at least they left me a plunger and
some toilet paper.
All of the doors in the apartment – I guess because they’re
white – are speckled with dirt and grime, scrapes from I-don’t-know-what, and
occasional breaks.
There’s a clear, worn, stained, however you want to define
it pathway over the carpet in the master bedroom, delineating the placement of
the bed. Can’t wait to see what’s under
it!!
The kitchen! Now here’s
where it gets really fun! Todd moved the
refrigerator out of the corner and look what we found under it! You will notice a piece of paper/cardboard on
the left side… and if you look vewy, vewy carefully, you will see a flattened
and vewy dead mouse directly in front of it.
The refrigerator just may be the star attraction… if you
have a weak stomach and the mouse didn’t do it for ya, feel free to look
away. I zoomed in on the water and
ice dispenser, which probably hasn’t been cleaned since it left the warehouse
20 years ago. The interior isn’t nearly
as bad as the refrigerator was in our house when we moved back in, but the
outside is clearly the showstopper.
There’s no need to describe the handle, a picture is worth a thousand
words. And the piece de resistance? The front panel on the right side near the
bottom is corroded from …. wait for it... urine. Oh yes.
The urinating on things is a recurring theme here… as
evidenced by not only the refrigerator, but also by the bottom of the kitchen
cabinet doors – which I later discovered when I started cleaning the kitchen. I heard that the dogs also peed on their furniture as well.
The rest of the footage shows the countertops, which appear
to be in good condition, the sink (dirty), the range (dirty), and the microwave (DIRTY). I’m pretty sure
that the dirt I saw dates further back than just a week or two. I don’t know.
I’m fairly anal about keeping a clean kitchen. Maybe my standards are a little high?
Finally, a short tour of the second bedroom – there’s
something brown splattered on the wall near the baseboards, which I chose not
to zoom in on. Hopefully it’s just hot
chocolate? The carpet appears substantially
cleaner than the others, but the door is stained on one side near the
bottom. Hmmmm….
Can’t wait to rip out the carpet!
